This one-eared dog named Van Gogh painted masterpieces with his tongue

Vincent Van Gogh created incredible paintings while suffering from symptoms of schizophrenia. He even cut off part of his own ear during a mental health crisis. That’s why it’s so fitting that a dog rescued from a fight with a missing ear (who also happens to be the creator of great art) is named after an artist such a perfect way.

But despite holding an event to showcase his beautiful paintings, Van Gogh has yet to find a permanent home.

When Van Gogh, the Boxer-Pitbull mix, was rescued from a dogfight in North Carolina, his ear was so badly injured that it required amputation. The sweet seven-year-old was used as a bait dog, and was wounded in a very rough shape.

Jaclyn Gartner, founder Furever is happy after the rescue in Connecticut, had the brilliant idea of letting Van Gogh create art that would not only help raise money to save them, but hopefully help him find a family forever.

How does a dog make art?

Of course, he paints with his tongue! Once someone has squeezed a few different coats of paint onto the fabric, they carefully slip it into a plastic bag and then coat the outside of the bag with a delicious layer of peanut butter.

“His picture was of him licking peanut butter and while he was licking peanut butter all the paint was smeared around and made up the design,” says Jaclyn.

This effect creates abstract art that is fun to look at and soothing to the soul. Wouldn’t animal lovers smile knowing that a piece of art on their wall was created by a dog? While the painting dog has sold 30 paintings for an average of $40 each, he is still looking for a permanent home. Despite everything he’s been through, Van Gogh is a laid-back, well-behaved and cuddly bug.

Jaclyn Gartner says, “He’ll fall in love with someone who cuddles him because he’s a cuddler.

Not only does he love to cuddle you on the couch but also was well trained, knew how to “sit and hold,” and walked exceptionally well on a leash. He wants to be your only pet, because he’s picky about dogs and doesn’t like cats.

Because of his abusive past, his ideal home would be a quiet home. Van Gogh was still easily startled by fast movements and frightened by loud sounds. But, dRegardless of his age, he loves to have his belly rubbed and will zoom around your yard. He is a pure love that weighs 70 pounds!
