Ryan Garcia tweeted Thursday afternoon: “I’m so excited this fight is finally happening. “I want it more than anything right now. I gave my best, I was at the peak of my career and I knew I was going to be the greatest boxer in the world. That legacy begins today.” Under the statement was a photo of Garcia and Gervonta Davis commenting with the headline “Deal done in Las Vegas, 2023.” Davis herself took to social media on Thursday. “AGREE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he posted on Instagram. “TELL ME THE BRINKS MF TRUCK READY!!!!!!!!” Like Garcia, Davis placed a fight photo to accompany his post.
If this news is true – and at this point it’s hard to imagine it won’t happen, one of the most anticipated bouts in boxing, if not the most anticipated. , will take place next year. Reports are that the Davis-Garcia fight will take place next April. Las Vegas will apparently be the venue, although exactly where and on what date has yet to be announced. The match will definitely be a pay-per-view event.
This is much-needed news for martial arts fans, as the past few months the sport has been brutal. First, the expected fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua failed. After that, negotiations for Terence Crawford-Errol Spence’s long-awaited welterweight title match fell through. Indeed, some are right to wonder whether the age-old era of boxing’s important bouts is coming to a disgraceful end. A Davis-Garcia fight would obviously go against that trend. It can also bring in a lot of money and eyeballs, as both boxers know how to attract fans. They are also young, undefeated and extremely hard to beat.
