Say this much to Ryan Garcia – he knows how to get attention. Now that he’s planning to get back to everything after an extended hiatus, he’s saying what he needs to do to raise an eyebrow. “I liked that fight,” he said to ESNEWS when asked about the prospect of facing new lightweight athlete George Kambosos. Although there are a lot of big fights for the Australian boxer, Garcia points out that ESNEWS that he brought in the most dollars and eyeballs.
“I’m going to outsell all of these guys,” he said on the video. That may be true, but there’s nothing bold about Garcia talking about how a war with the Kambosos would go downhill. “I won that fight,” Garcia said. “I knock him out maybe within seven innings.” Considering that Kambosos became a superstar by defeating Teofimo Lopez, who won his WBA, IBF and WBO belts from none other than Vasyl Lomachenko, that’s a complete confirmation. However, Garcia has so far been able to live up to her hype.
Garcia’s last game was in January of last year. It’s memorable because the undefeated Garcia not only beat but stopped, who beat Luke Campbell in seven games. Since then, it can be said that Garcia has not fought with anyone of note. Now, a year later and seemingly in good spirits (Garcia has made it clear he needs to rest), the boxer says he wants a crack at the Kambosos titles.
“Hopefully he wants it,” Garcia said of the Kambosos match.
However, Kambosos may have other fish he wants to fry – including a highly skilled WBC light hunter Devin Haney. Ironically, Kambosos was, until very recently, mostly seen as an afterthought. Title defender Lopez was considered to be on his way to “bigger” things when they met at the end of November. However, using a brilliant strategy, the Kambosos derailed the Lopez express train. , thus claiming to be the target of aspiring rising warriors.
