Still missing EV charging stations in Malaysia – MOSTI
In March last year, the government – under the previous administration – reiterated its goal of having 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2025as originally outlined in 2021 under Blueprint for Low Carbon Mobility (LCMB) 2021-2030.
The ambition is noble, but the action towards it is not quite in line with the intention. As of last September, there were less than 1,000 public charging stations Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Chang Lih Kang said that although the number of EV charging stations is currently reported to be around 1,000, the number is still far short of what is needed to promote the country’s electrification program.
He said it is necessary to increase the number of charging stations to drive continued growth in the segment, as Star report.
“Electric vehicles are still new to our market and country. The EV ecosystem is still incomplete because there are not enough charging stations. Therefore, manufacturers are hesitant to enter the market,” he said after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Alibaba Cloud and Agmo Holdings earlier this week.
The partnership between the two digital platforms aims to make it easier for EV users by providing the right information about public charging stations through the Agmo EV Super App so they can decide which ones to charge. best serve your needs. The application will provide the user with information such as payment methods, navigational assistance as well as charging rates offered by the respective service providers.
Chang added that his ministry will carry out a number of programs to develop the local EV industry in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and Tenaga Nasional.
