Junkyard Gems: 1955 Hudson Rambler Custom Cross Country

American Motors Corporation was formed when Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company merged in 1954. new car with the AMC badge that didn’t show up until model year 1966, however; Before that, the old brand names remained for a while. Vehicles with Nash badges existed until 1957while Rambler (formerly a Model name Nash) became the main brand of AMC through 1967 (despite the 1930s Nash “Weather Eye” feature name appeared on AMC consoles in the 1970s). Hudson has an ax at the same time as Nashbut an AMC got it two brand name just before: custom cross country station wagon Hudson Rambler. This is one of those rare machines, discovered a few months ago in a Wyoming self-service dump just across the border from Colorado.

It’s hard to miss Cheyenne Auto and Metal when you’re riding up I-25 from Colorado, because the yard is so close fireworks shop with this memorable logo.

The only visible difference between the Rambler Custom Cross Country and the the hudson Cross Country Rambler is the grille badge. Otherwise, both are identical.

You can see the silhouette of the Hudson badge on this car’s grille, but it’s long gone. This car’s Hudson badge version is only available for 1955 and 1956 models. Several paint options getting pretty wild.

The only clue that would allow me to determine that this vehicle was sold new under the Hudson name was the number on this firewall tag. My guess is that Hudson fans don’t consider this Nash their own, nor do many Packard fans turn their backs on Famous fish-faced Studebakers 1958.

This motor is a straight six flat head displacement volume of 196 cubic inches’ (3.2 liters), called Nash “Flying Scot”. It was rated at 90 hp in 1955. This engine had a long career with American Motors, Available in flat form to 1965. It is not mechanically related to the latter straight six . AMC overhead valvestill being installed in New Jeep at the end of 2006but i consider it morale The ancestor of Jeep 4.0.

This car can be purchased with an automatic transmission (transmission made by GM Two-speed Powerglide), but base Instructions to move column three on the tree went into most of the ’55 Ramblers.

There’s only one gauge (not counting the meter) and that’s this beautifully designed all-in-one.

I think about buying dash watches for mine store collectBut mechanical mechanical watches left outside for decades tend to rust inside.

These cars are great, but the cost to restore one in this condition will be very high (especially considering a nice example with a Buick V6 swap on sale for just $21,000 last year).

AMC keep the name of the Ten Kingdoms let the wagon pass at least 1967.
