Random: Modder builds Wii & GameCube Portable with “Reactive RGB”
Nintendo Hardware Operator Foot is back, this time with the “reactive color-changing” Wii and GameCube mobile systems.
It’s called ‘GloWii’ and uses RGB LEDs & video processing to show the light through the transparent GB case. Here’s a quick highlight reel of it running all sorts of Nintendo titles:
The system is based on the design of “GWii” – an open source Wii mobile device designed by an individual named Gunner (aka Gman Mods). It uses a 5-inch 4×3 display, original GameCube controls, along with a modified Wii motherboard.
As for the LEDs, they are controlled by a Raspberry Pi Zero W running on the free openware Hyperion, which adds “configurable reactive ambient backlighting” to display devices by analyzing the edges of the screen.
