‘Gran Turismo World Series’ 2022 in Monaco proved a match 25 of Gran Turismoorder anniversary. The four-day racing festival saw three crowned champions, a newly unveiled Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, a tight Pro-Am race in which BWT Alpine F1 Team driver Esteban Ocon just win, another race between GT agent Sophy AI and some of the top drivers of the World Series, online appearance of seven-time F1 world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, stunning cars on display presentation and plenty of opportunities for the Gran Turismo community to participate and win in-game prizes.
First up was the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup on Thursday, November 24. After two highly competitive Semi-Finals and one last chance rematch, 12 riders lined up for the Finals, 30 laps around the Fuji International Circuit in a TOYOTA GR010 HYBRID – a real version of this car was on display at the event. It was the 2018 Nations Cup champion, Brazilian Igor Fraga, who put on an outstanding performance to win, and the trophy presented by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe Vice President Kazuki Nakajima.
On Friday, it’s time to shrink the 30-driver pitch at the Nations Cup to the final 12 – and crown three regional champions in the process. Takuma Miyazono (JPN), three-time champion in 2020, won the title for the Asia-Oceania Region. The EMEA race went to Spain’s Coque López, who has attended every GT World Series event since its start in 2018. The rain started to fall leaving drivers looking for medium or completely wet tires. The intermediate appears to be the better choice as conditions improve. However, the rain started again on the latter stage of this 30-lap race and this time it wasn’t clear, making the transitions to full wet finish stronger. Team Subaru’s superb racing technique and excellent tire selection saw them win just over Team Toyota and Team Mercedes-AMG in third place.
The results put Subaru and Toyota on the same page, but Daniel Solis (USA), Takuma Miyazono (JPN) and Kylian Drumont (FRA) of Subaru were the ones who lifted the stunning Boccioni-Inspired Manufacturer trophy with the title. way to be World Champion by their victory in the Finals.
And so head to the Nations Cup Final on Sunday for more excitement. López and Inostroza both have 30 points, but the Spaniard’s victory in the Final won him the World Championship and left the Chilean bitterly disappointed. The third step of the podium belongs to Igor Fraga of Brazil.
