What do you want to know?
Do you believe it Subaru Impreza has only existed for thirty years? During that time, practically everything – a Monster GatheringOne drift devilONE land explorationeven one stance icon. As those three decades passed, however, the car’s spirit was divided. The WRX is already its own model because almost a decade nowbring along the base of performing enthusiasts and the land-based crowd move to Crosstrek. What remains for the humble Impreza?
Dear reader, that is what I intend to learn this week. I’m going to Paso Robles (via San Luis Obispo) to test drive Subaru’s latest Impreza. Touring through beautiful wine country, I wanted to know what was left to give Impreza its unique character.
One thing Subaru seems to be hoping will bring some spirit to the Impreza is the new RS model, a tribute to the old Impreza 2.5RS. The RS has always been a step between the base Impreza and the sleek World Rally Xperimental, and it looks like the new version will be the same: A 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, an upgrade from the standard car’s 2.0 engine.
For 2024, the redesigned Impreza inherits the structural and body-rigid improvements from the Crosstrek, which Subaru claims will deliver more.”agile“car that”suitable for an active lifestyle.” That level of sales is definitely right in the middle of the table – neither the WRX’s full sportiness, nor the Crosstrek’s outdoor performance.
