Why you should use a wired connection to print photos

To produce accurate prints, you need to have a few elements right. From print configuration, to paper selection, to precision calibration. If you’re working on a Mac, you need to make sure you’re doing it the right way.

There really is nothing more exciting than creating a print that looks nothing like it on screen. So when wireless printing was born, it seemed like a great convenience. Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case, as a photographer and educator Glyn Dewis discovered recently.

The video begins with Dewis explaining what AirPrint is. Dewis then went on to print out some color charts and prove Apple’s claim of a full-quality print product is actually not. I was actually quite surprised at how much information the AirPrint method left out when you looked at the two color histograms printed side by side. Dewis then goes on to give real-life examples of these printing methods, where it is clear that using a wired printer with the correct configurations has produced results that are superior to AirPrint. or any wireless protocol.

With photographers having to do it at home so time-consuming and expensive to print, it’s important to know best practices. It would be easy to blame some other element of the printing process for bad prints before realizing it was the connection protocol that was causing the headache.

Do you already have a reliable print setup in place? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
