The people and websites that sell the most products make the most money, but at what cost?
Fstoppers.com is now over 12 years old and I have learned a lot about marketing over the years. I was given a lot of free equipment, I got early access to interesting products, and I got paid to advertise the product directly. Sometimes, I love these products and it’s easy to promote them, but sometimes, they’re not perfect and although I want to be unbiased, money still plays an important role.
If I say I don’t like a product, will I lose affiliate sales? Will they give me another free product in the future? Will I lose early access? Will they stop advertising altogether?
I’m definitely not perfect, and I’ve sold sponsored content for products I don’t really love, but I’m also tempted to promote products in hopes of making a connection or getting the following perks. this. I don’t think anything is broken or that the advertisers or marketers are doing anything wrong; it’s just the way the world works.
