Ford electric cars are losing money but hope is coming for the next generation of vehicles. Mazda launched an attractive electric sedan that has so far been limited to China. Toyota plans to produce a second American-made three-row electric SUV. And Honda is creating another electric vehicle hub in Canada. This and more, at Green Car Reports.
Than Ford EV costs less The automaker said it’s on track to deliver as it reported a big electric vehicle loss in the first quarter of the year. As executives explained, Ford tried to cut costs with the Mustang Mach-E EV, but it couldn’t keep up with the price reductions needed to stay competitive.
Mazda has applied its design flair EZ-6 electric vehicle incorporating technology from China’s Changan Automobile. While its range figures are a far better representation of what American buyers might look for in an electric vehicle, Mazda has yet to confirm plans for any markets outside of China.
Toyota confirmed Second American-made 3-row electric SUV—in Princeton, Indiana, starting in 2026. That’s in addition to Toyota’s other three-row electric SUV that will be produced in Kentucky in 2025. According to reports, the Indiana-made EV could be the Highlander EV, while the Kentucky model could incorporate all the most advanced production methods proposed by Toyota in recent years are already in the pipeline.
And Honda plans to create one $11 billion electric vehicle hub in Canada. Expected to ramp up by 2028, the Ontario hub has the capacity to produce up to 240,000 electric vehicles per year and sees demand for Honda’s electric vehicles driven by American production.
