Video: Timelapse 4K made with 78,846 NASA images showing a month of the Sun: Digital Photography Review
Sean Doran Turn astrological pictures into amazing videos. We have seen his work prior to and it’s amazing that Doran uses still images from organizations like NASA and JAXA to create stunning videos. Doran’s latest creation is a remastered video of the Sun.
Doran used 78,846 ångström-171 data frames from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. He edited, processed and scaled the images taken in August 2014 to create the final 4K resolution video. The 48-minute period represents the motion of the Sun during that month.
It’s one thing to see still images from Solar Dynamics Observatory, but seeing them in motion is especially impactful.
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) was the first NASA mission undertaken for NASA’s Single-Star Living (LWS) Program. The program is designed to help us understand what causes the sun’s variability and its impact on the Earth. SDO is designed to advance our understanding of the Sun’s impact on Earth and near-Earth space. Some of the goals of SDO include understanding how the Sun’s magnetic field is generated and structured, and how stored magnetic energy is converted and released into the heliosphere and geosphere in the form of the solar wind. , energetic particles and variance in solar radiation. SDO launched on February 11, 2010 from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
SDO includes three instruments for capturing different wavelengths of light. These tools include the Helicopter and Magnetic Imager (HMI), Ultraviolet Transformation Experiment (EVE), and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA). The final tool is what captured the source images that Doran used for the video above.
The video below illustrates the wide range of wavelengths that SDO can observe. It’s amazing to see the different ways instruments on SDO can view the Sun.
