Two $1K scholarships to be awarded on Louisiana Cup Day


The Louisiana Downs will be hosting Louisiana Cup Day on Saturday, August 6, with a posting time of 1:45 p.m. CT. Many activities are planned for Louisiana Thoroughbreds day. Seven races will be contested, including six bets, all in the amount of $67,000. The draw for the six Louisiana Cup Day features will take place on Saturday.

Also on Louisiana Cup Day, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association (LTBA) will award two scholarships, each worth $1,000, to college students.

“We invite registrants to register at the Louisiana Downs and enjoy the races,” said Roger Heitzmann, secretary/treasurer of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association. “Students, families and friends are invited to the Louisiana Cup Day race, which is a great day of championship racing for Louisiana-bred thoroughbreds.”

The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:

Registration for

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time in an Accredited College, University, or Community College for Fall 2022
  • Scholarships will be awarded by random drawing.
  • Must be in good standing with college or university.
  • Must be present to win at the Winner Spin when announced.
  • Must have university ID and government issued ID.
  • Must have a college ID number or Social Security number.

For Louisiana Cup Day:

  • Check-in: 12:45pm – 1:45pm at the designated booth
  • Races start: 1:45pm
  • Draw Period: Scholarships will be awarded after the fifth race. The scholarship will be deposited directly into the student’s account at the college or university. Students are required to know the name and address of the university they are attending.
