Toyota Grand Highlander called ‘ultimate touring car’

Toyota teased a mysterious image of something called Grand highlanders. It won’t be fully revealed for a few more months, but there are plenty of hints to make well-founded conjectures. For a name, it is implied that it will be a longer version of the Highlander, so let’s distinguish the difference between that and the Sequoia.

Another clue is the Hybrid Max badge on the new badonk. The last time we saw that, it was on Crown’s weird crossover sedanand produces an impressive combined output of 340 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Toyota hasn’t said what the Grand Highlander will pack under the hood, but it has described it as “powerful”.

The main draw of this car, we expect, will be a longer cabin with more legroom in the third row and greater cargo capacity. Toyota calls it “optimism road trip car.” It seems Toyota wants to compete with popular three-row rigs like Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. The name also makes a clear connection with mediums like Jeep Grand Cherokee and big carriageeach of which has its own stretched versions called Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer Lthe latter was possible swallow all worldly possessions by Senior Editor James Riswick.

This isn’t the first time Toyota has offered stretched versions of the vehicle. After years of begging, Lexus finally offered L versions of the RX, RX350L and RX450hL. Toyota also used the name Grand Hiace in the late 1990s for a van carrying seven and eight passengers, a pun on the famous Hiace. small truck.

We won’t know the full details until the Grand Highlander is revealed on February 8, followed by an appearance at Chicago Auto Show tomorrow.
