Cheapest VW Amarok can line up for extra safety kit
entry level Core Volkswagen Amarok may soon receive an update that will bring its safety equipment in line with the rest of the product line.
Volkswagen Australia Product and Marketing Manager Ben Triebels says auto expert The company is currently working on adding safety equipment such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert for the vehicle. Core Amarok as part of the model year change.
“That’s something that we’ve brought on board and we’ve looked at it,” Mr Triebels said.
“We’re looking at what we’re doing for the 2024 model, a model upgrade.
“We’re bringing it all together and hope to see some movement in that area.”
The Amarok Core is currently the only variant in the lineup that doesn’t feature blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
It is worth noting that all variations of related Ford Ranger Get blind-spot monitoring, and all pickups get rear cross-traffic alert.
Regardless of the safety tech missing on the Amarok Core, it still has a five-star ANCAP safety rating, just like the Ranger is concerned.
Amarok scored 86% for adult passenger protection, 93% for child passenger protection, 74% for vulnerable pedestrian protection and 83% for safety assistance.
The adult passenger protection score for the Amarok is technically higher than what the Ranger received, while the Ford received a score of 84%. Overall, Amarok also has better whip protection.
It’s not clear what other spec tweaks could be made to the Amarok with the 2024 model year update. With more safety gear on board for the Core, expect prices to rise.
The Volkswagen Amarok Core 2023 starts at $52,990 before shipping and is powered exclusively by a 2.0-liter single turbo-diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, with part-time all-wheel drive. . .
