Many people assume that their friends or family will take care of their pets if they pass away, but sadly, that’s not always the case. When a man near Los Angeles died suddenly, his dog Nico was left unattended. The dog was abandoned and it ended up fighting for its life in the LA River.
Nico’s family members won’t come forward to recognize him, but there are plenty of strangers who are thrilled to be his new family. When animal lovers heard about a dog stuck in the river, they didn’t hesitate to save the dog’s life.
Fight for your life
Some bystanders became concerned when they noticed a small dog walking along the LA River with no way to escape on its own. People first contacted animal control and the fire department, but no one rushed to help the dog. So someone got in touch Hope for the feet and show them the video of the dog by the river. Members of the organization arrived on the scene as quickly as possible.
Fortunately, the dog was stuck in a place where it could stand and walk so there was no risk of drowning. But when the animal rescuers went down there to look for him, the temperature was 110 degrees Fahrenheit. So they explored the tunnels to see if the pup would seek shade.

A lifeguard recorded them going into the tunnel to find the dog. As they got deeper inside, it was so dark that they needed night vision goggles. Fortunately, the dog did not go deep into the tunnel, so rescuers found it huddled on a dry patch of ground against the wall of the tunnel.
The poor dog looked extremely scared and confused as rescuers put on two leashes. However, he showed no signs of aggression, and he did not resist when a woman on the team picked him up. He may have had a rough few days, so he’s grateful to finally be in someone’s loving arms again.
Nico’s Happily Ever After
The dog has a microchip, so Hope for Paws scanned it and discovered that the puppy’s human had recently passed away and someone had thrown the dog into the street. His human daughter has no interest in the dog, and they don’t even know his name. Therefore, the rescue organization took the puppy to take care of.
Hope for Paws calls the little dog Nico. They gave him a bath for too long and they shaved off his shaggy hair. Once Nico was clean and healthy, he came back to life and became very affectionate towards his rescuers.
Nico has been adopted by a loving family and he seems happier than ever. When his new selves sang, Nico liked to howl along with them. Now, Nico will never have to worry about being abandoned again.
