In case you missed the story, this book begins as a Blog Jalopnik. Alanis and I were tasked with tracing the origins of Rich Energy, the title sponsor of the Haas Formula 1 team in 2019, and we published that first paper in April 2019. Together with the staff Elsewhere at the time, Alanis and I kept up with the story as it swirled through numerous lawsuits and lots of ridiculous tweets before the whole thing exploded just six months into the F1 season. After the story is included Drive to surviveAn employee who wanted to know more found our blogs during his Google search and with that, the seed of the book was born.
In the years since, we’ve spoken with former Haas employees who are affiliated with Rich Energy as a company, and other athletes sponsored or managed by William Storey. We watched financial statements and litigation documents that we had to see to believe. And we also did all the hard work ourselves: editing, fact checking multiple times, designing the cover, organizing the index, and creating the bibliography. The fact that it’s finally here after such a long wait is unbelievable!
