2022 President Cup Matches, tee times: Quartets, teams, complete schedule for Day 3 on Saturday
The US won Day 2 4-1 – exactly the same as Day 1 – and now have an unsurpassable lead in the team’s eight games on Saturday, starting early with four quarterfinals in the morning.
It was the quarterfinals where the United States has historically dominated the event. Based on how it played during the first two days of this year’s Presidents Cup, that is expected to continue on Saturday as Davis Love III’s team is likely to win the trophy by winning 7.5 of the 8 points possible in two sessions on Day 3.
The Internationals have to find a spark just to keep this week respectable, but the US is clearly trying to keep that from happening by tossing Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in the quarterfinals (alternately) early. . The American duo have put together a 2-0-0 record so far and will face Sungjae Im and Corey Conners in a rematch of the Day 1 Action.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the Saturday morning session was who didn’t play. Aggressive pairing Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay sit out, so are Billy Horschel and Kevin Kisner for the Americans.
Sitting internationals Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Mito Pereira, who took half a point in four balls on Friday. Taylor Pendrith and Sebastian Munoz were both at their best on Day 2 and they’ll be on the bench. Captain Trevor Immelman’s team is up against the wall and will need a big morning practice session if there is any hope of a historic comeback.
