Of course, the most obvious difference is the balance between aperture and aperture range. focal length, but it goes deeper than this. For example, the 24-105mm (or 24-120mm) f/4 lenses are typically about half cheaper than their f/2.8 counterparts. While f/4 is a bit slow for a lot of work, I still find myself drawn to those lenses as companions simply because I’ve always found the 70mm to be a bit limited in length. And with the high ISO capabilities of modern mirrorless cameras, f/4 isn’t as much of an obstacle as it once was.
