Adoptive dogs take some time to get used to their temporary home. At first, some dogs are at risk of flying because they are intimidated by the unfamiliar situation. But when the pet dogs get lost, many dog lovers come to help find them.
An 8-year-old Coonhound named Dylan ran away from his foster home in New Jersey and has been missing for over a week. His adoptive mother refused to stop looking for him, and eventually, someone found him in an unusual location. It took a lot of trained professionals to get Dylan to safety.
Stuck in a drainage pipe
Dylan is coming Jericho’s Wish Animal Rescue after being rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. Shellinda Hardie agrees to raise Dylan, but she has no idea how much trouble he will cause. The puppy unexpectedly escaped from his foster home, so Hardie reached out to the community for help finding him.
About a week after Dylan went missing, neighbors found him in a narrow drain after they heard him barking. He was too deep for anyone to pull him out, so Hardie called 911. The poor puppy had no access to the food or water in the pipes.

Firefighters, police, electricians and other public officials worked together to get Dylan out of the pipeline. They had to dig into the ground and chisel at the pipe to reach the dog. However, the power lines forced the rescuers to be extremely cautious when digging.
“The only way you can describe it is fear and excitement,” Hardie said. “It’s great. All these people came together for a dog. A dog they don’t even know”.
A happy ending in sight
With permission, rescuers dug into someone’s property and started chiseling in the pipes. Loud sounds outside the pipes sent Dylan running towards the exit, where firefighters were waiting for him. The rescue took a total of nine hours, but it was worth it to see Dylan safe.
“It is unbelievable that he is actually alive. Kathleen Tortu-Bowles of the South New Jersey Humanitarian Watch and Trap Recovery Team said it was a good thing he was saved.
Rescuers took Dylan to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, where he was in a rough condition. He had a temperature of 104 degrees, burns to his feet and elbows, and ticks all over his body.
