A Jack Russell mix named Millie slipped while walking in Hampshire, England. She evaded all efforts of police, firemen and coast guard officers to rescue her from dangerous mudflats.
When the tide began to rise, rescuers needed to quickly find some way to save the girl from drowning.
“It was a crazy idea,” said Chris Taylor, with the Denmead Drone Search and Rescue (DDSAR) team. told Guard.
This nonprofit uses drones to find lost pets in Hampshire and reunite them with family for free. They helped locate and track her as rescuers tried multiple methods to capture her.
They decided as a “last resort” to try to lure the little dog with a sausage dangling from a drone – something they had never done before. The sausage was provided by a local woman and it was attached with a rope to the drone.

“If we don’t get her out of that area, the tide will come in and she’ll be in danger of drowning,” he said. remember Taylor. “It was something we had never tried before – sausage was a last resort, as we couldn’t reach her by kayak or any other means.”
The hungry dog followed the savory to higher ground and was eventually reunited with his worried mother, Emma Oakes.
Millie is safe at home with her family. She shared that she is a rescue dog and shy. They were overjoyed to have her back and Oakes said, “Relief just fell on me. It’s wonderful to have her home. “

Sausage bait worked to the rescue of Millie because she loves food. Her mother says, “she’ll eat anything you give her… raw carrots, cucumbers – but she prefers hot dogs.”
DDSAR posted pictures of the rescue on Facebook and Written, “Surprisingly, it works extremely well. Although we had to stand on end when she caught the sausage and then the drone. The drone was quickly released very fortunately.”
Crazy idea that could help save other dogs in the future. Non-profit organization stated, “We would definitely consider using sausages again: every dog and search is always different, but if we were in the same situation again, we would use similar methods to lure the dog.”
