Bentley turns the 5,660-pound Bentayga into a lightweight track-ready Apex by shedding 97 pounds
Twenty lucky Bentley buyers from the wealthy generation will have the opportunity to own an exclusive ultra-light car Bentayga Apex version by Mulliner, the car Bentley calls “the most dynamic Bentayga ever.” While the Apex has a bespoke bodykit, the main difference lies in the reduced unsprung weight thanks to the 22-inch carbon fiber wheels and carbon ceramic brakes. Its ready to follow the giant SUV that Bentley ever produced. This makes sense since it’s built from the same MLB Evo chassis as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and Lamborghini Urus Performante.
Based on the Bentayga S, this new Apex is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, rated at 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. It will run from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 miles per hour. It’s not noticeably quicker than the standard Bentayga, but Bentley says the carbon wheels will deflect less than a degree from the lateral load g, so it’s likely to grip better through corners.
I don’t know what nonsense Bentley’s been listening to lately, but who’s been begging for a Bentayga that’s one point seven percent lighter so it can get around the track faster? Are Bentayga customers looking for a performance advantage at Spa or Silverstone? I’m trying to determine the purpose of this ridiculous machine. Why wrap a giant hog of a luxury people-mover in carbon fiber just to earn a few tenths at the Nurburgring? Is it for the contest that my cock is bigger than yours? And where does it end?
In 2024, car enthusiasts are encouraged to buy sports car lift And Track-ready SUV. Engineers and marketers are continuing the long march toward the ultimate goal of enthusiasm, building infinitely more absurd oxymoronic vehicles. I hate it here. Get off my lawn.
