Rahul Srivatshav Becomes 74th Indian Chess Grandmaster
Telangana’s Rahul Srivatshav P has become India’s 74th Grandmaster, achieving the title after breaking the 2500 barrier (Elo score) in the live FIDE rating during the 9th Cattolica Chess Festival 2022 at IDEA.
The 19-year-old player reached the 2500 Elo direct rating after drawing his 8th game against Grandmaster Levan Pantsulaia in the Cattolica event.
His current Elo Rating is 2468.
Srivatshav hit five GM standards and took the title when he crossed the 2500 rating threshold on Friday.

To become a GM, a player must meet three GM qualifications and pass a direct rating of 2500 Elo points.
“India goes one step further towards 100 Grandmasters! Meet our newest addition to the elite club, 19-year-old Rahul Srivatshav from Telangana, India’s 74th Grandmaster! Big congratulations to Rahul, his coach and family!” All India Chess Federation President Sanjay Kapoor tweeted on Saturday.
Bharath Subramaniyam became the country’s 73rd GM in January. The legendary Viswanathan Anand was India’s first GM, he became GM in 1988.
