Does the Browns’ bench have Baker Mayfield? Kevin Stefanski gives definitive answer on the state of QB
The Browns dropped their “Sunday Night Football” game against Raven and in the process dropped to 6-6 and now sit in the AFC North vault. A big part of the loss was QB Baker Mayfield, who made 18/37 247-yard passes and a touchdown.
When asked after the game about a potential change in midfield, coach Kevin Stefanski continued the question with a question of his own:
“No. No. Let me ask you a question: Why did we do it? We didn’t do it,” Stefanski said emphatically about Mayfield’s condition during his post-match press conference.

Mayfield has faced a multitude of injuries this year: A complete tear in his left shoulder (with no throw), a fracture in the sacrum, a knee injury and a bruise on his heel all hindered him. He also seemed to have trouble moving around on Cleveland’s disappearance Sunday.
Stefanski has been telling us all week that Baker looks healthy and he’s ready to go. At halftime, he told Michelle Tafoya that Baker was “physically good”.
Now this is Baker on drive 2 of the game. Apparently he could barely walk. Stefanski needs to answer for this. #Browns pic.twitter.com/llLoCJ0kzw

Even so, Mayfield missed just one game for 2021, Thursday night’s game against the Broncos. Case Keenum led Cleveland to a 17-14 win in Week 7’s game.
While Mayfield is trending surgery this season to repair his shoulder, the Browns have refused to put the passer in the injured reserve position to rest and recover from a number of other nagging injuries. Mayfield also refused to sit out.
For now, it looks like the Browns are sticking with Mayfield – for better or for worse.
