Open Vocations’ Open Barn and BBQ will be held on April 28


The New Career Racehorse Adoption Program will host its sixth annual barbecue on Friday, April 28 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the program’s Lexington facility at Mereworth Ranch.

This year’s event—hosted to coincide with Land Rover Kentucky’s three-day event, which takes place at nearby Kentucky Horse Park—will feature educational workshops, Advanced Classes, and the Equestrian Project. retired “Introductory Jumping Exercise for OTTBs” presents and the opportunity to meet adoptable horses while touring the facility.

  • Retired Racehorse MasterClass project focusing on basic jumping exercises presented by five-star event organizer Sara Kozumplik
  • Common challenges with your OTTB presented by New Vocations coach Lexington and facility manager Leandra Cooper
  • Navigating Old Wounds Presented by Veterinarian Dr. Rhodes Bell

Jen Roytz—manager of Brownstead Ranch, retired former executive director of the Racehorse Project, and OTTB owner and rider—will moderate the sessions.

All proceeds from the auction will go directly to support New Vocations’ mission of rehabilitating, retraining and rehabilitating retired racehorses.
