Lucid confirms Nvidia architecture for DreamDrive Pro driver assistance system


Lucid on Tuesday confirmed that Nvidia will provide the software architecture for the DreamDrive Pro driver assistance system.

DreamDrive Pro will use the Nvidia Drive software platform, combined with 32 onboard sensors, Lucid said in a press release. That sensor set includes 14 cameras, a polygraph, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, the automaker said.

Details for the first time in 2020, DreamDrive Pro is standard on Lucid Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, and optional on other Air models. It’s billed as the answer to Tesla’s Autopilot, General Motors’ Super Cruise, and Ford’s BlueCruise, and Lucid has suggested it will eventually exceed the capabilities of these systems.

To wit, Nvidia in its own release said it would be adding “new functions throughout the life of the vehicle.” The company has also validated its system for BYD and partnered with Jaguar Land Rover for software-determined and active safety services.

By partnering with Nvidia, Lucid seems to be going in a different direction from what it initially announced. The automaker initially unveiled a system developed with Former Tesla supplier, Mobileye.

In addition to the software platform, it is important for Lucid to include lidar. Most automakers consider lidar to be necessary for a higher degree of automation.

Lucid claims that Air is First US market model with lidar. On the international level, Xpeng was one of the first. It is also a partner of Nvidia.

Meanwhile, Tesla continues to allow some customers to test the ability to drive in the city hands-freemainly use camera sensor and no cover.
