Interior SsangYong Torres 2023 revealed

SsangYong revealed its upcoming interior Torres The SUV, a key model for the brand, is working hard to secure a new owner.

A series of teaser images revealed on the brand’s social media channels show a clean and modern designed cabin.

There’s a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system tilted towards the driver and a separate 8.0-inch touchscreen for the climate control system – similar to the settings found in Audi and Land Rover products.

The presence of a USB-A socket below the bottom display is a bit unusual, given that automakers are switching to USB-C sockets; It is not clear if there are any USB-C sockets in the cabin.

It looks like ventilated seats will be available, while the image shows a striking caramel-colored dashboard. Another image shows the white seats, suggesting a possible range of interior colors. Whether they will go to Australia, where black interiors reign supreme, is another question.

There’s a tiered luggage space, with 703L of cargo volume or 839L if you remove the luggage plate.

Total luggage space expands to 1662L with the second row of seats folded. No third row is present.

For context, a Rexton there is 641L with the third row of seats folded and total cargo space is 1806L.

A spokesman for SsangYong Australia said Torres was part of the company’s plans. The timing is yet to be confirmed, although production will begin in June.

Electric powertrain will be available in the Torres.

Named after the stunning Torres del Paine National Park in Chile (“Torres” means “tower” in Spanish), the new SUV will sit in the middle of a mid-size sedan. Korando Rexton large SUV and crossover.

We have seen Torres’ teasers before, while its rear tail is uncovered. However, the latest set of promotional images give us more angles on the mid-size SUV, which introduces a new design language for the brand.

Features flared fenders, clean styling, distinctive headlamps and a Jeep-like grooved grille.

Perhaps the most distinctive element is the rear door, which has a large bulge that mimics the outer spare wheels of rugged SUVs.

The teasers also feature Torres wearing roof-mounted steering lights, as well as thick all-terrain tires. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a 4WD badge can be seen on the fenders.

The overall look is designed to look firmer and more like your face than a more pure SsangYong like the Korando.

However, this J100 will most likely have a more car-like unibody architecture, like the Korando, instead of a body-on-frame construction like the Rexton.

Therefore, the combination of unibody platform and bluff styling will be similar to the formula used by the Ford Bronco Sport and Haval Dargo.

SsangYong has yet to confirm the technical information about Torres.

It won’t be SsangYong’s first electric SUV as the company has unveiled an electric version of the mid-size Korando called the Korando E-Motion.

The electric crossover uses a 61.5kWh battery and a 140kW front-mounted electric motor, with a claimed WLTP range of 339km.

It will go on sale in Europe earlier this year, although it is still “under research” for Australia.

SsangYong has previously confirmed its EV range will grow to include a related vehicle and has also introduced a compact, solid-looking SUV codenamed KR10, inspired by generations of vehicles. Korando before it became a unibody crossover.

It recently confirmed an electric SUV codenamed E100 will hit the market in the second half of 2023.

The company is about to go through the auction process again to find a new buyer after the acquisition of Korean electric bus maker Edison Motors failed.

A consortium led by steelmaking chemical company KG Group has been selected as the preliminary contractor.

SsangYong has until October 15 to find a new owner and file a new restructuring plan with the Seoul Bankruptcy Court.

It said it aims to sign an agreement as early as July and submit its plan to the court by the end of that month for approval by the end of August.
