Saudi Arabia and Dorna sign Memorandum of Understanding to host MotoGP
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Saudi Motorsport Company and Dorna to host MotoGP in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia, represented by HRH Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al-Faisal, President of the Saudi Federation of Automobiles and Motorcycles and the Saudi Automobile Company, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, Chief Executive Officer of Dorna, signed the Memorandum of Understanding at the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday.
The addition of Saudi Arabia to the MotoGP calendar aims to see the sport expand further into the Middle East, with Qatar currently hosting the only round in the region. A Road to MotoGP program will be launched for young racing talent in Saudi Arabia to compete at the highest levels of motor racing, with the aim of developing Arab MotoGP champions Saudi Arabia.
A purpose-built FIA and FIM analog circuit will be built to host the MotoGP race in Saudi Arabia, although the date and time are not disclosed. The plan to bring MotoGP to Saudi Arabia follows the successful hosting of other major global motorsport events such as Formula 1, Formula E, Off-road Cycling and Extreme E.
