Honda EV timeline, degraded Tesla battery, Costco charging: Car News Today

Teslas don’t lose much driving range over the long haul. Costco isn’t interested in EV charging yet. And Honda sped up its in-house electric vehicle. This and more, at Green Car Reports.

The first mass market, developed in-house EV from Honda will arrive in 2025 for North America, executives confirmed on Wednesday as part of the company’s update on restructuring its business around EVs and sustainable supply chains. The EV coming in two years will follow the GM-based Prologue SUV by a year and will debut a new architecture that supports over-the-air updates and Honda’s own software interface.

Retail giant Costco attracts more customers and cars by reducing gas prices. That in turn is a strong traffic attraction for its stores in general. But, one executive recently emphasized, Costco has no plans to return to EV charging over the next few years—and even though U.S. gasoline consumption has peaked, Costco says its market share continues to grow.

And according to a chart provided in Tesla’s 2022 Impact Report released this week, its Model S and Model X battery pack degrades only 12% on average more than 200,000 miles. Considering these models’ wireless performance updates since they were first received, that equates to over 88% of their original real-world range.
