Newcomer GWM Haval H6 Hybrid and coming soon H6 GT ‘coupe SUV’ have all earned one five-star safety score from the Australian crash test agency ANCAP.
Further results from the regular H6 petrol range reach maximum impact point in March of this year.
ANCAP says it has conducted additional tests of frontal offset and internal oblique pole H6 Hybrid to confirm the integrity of batteries and high voltage electrical equipment.
With these additional crash tests, ANCAP has chosen to extend the five-star rating to all variants of the Chinese-made midsize SUV.
In contrast, the H6 GT was not subjected to a separate crash test, but according to an ANCAP review, it was deemed to have the same safety certifications as the regular H6 and thus received five stars.

H6 Hybrid
The GWM Haval H6 is the latest in a series of Chinese-made vehicles that have received a five-star safety rating from ANCAP. These include things like GWM Ute, Polestar 2, MG ZS EVand MG HS.
The entire GWM Haval H6 product line has earned a five-star safety rating based on scores of 90% for adult protection, 88% for child protection, 73% for vulnerable pedestrian protection. and 81% on safety support.
ANCAP says the H6 “performs well in all assessment areas”, with full marks awarded for rider protection in both the side and oblique crash tests, and impact protection. front and rear occupants and protect front occupants during the front clearance test.
Even so, a penalty was imposed on the driver’s footrest, as it showed some signs of “loss of integrity” in the front yaw test.
ANCAP praises the GWM Haval H6’s active safety systems, with good ratings in all lane-keeping emergency situations and auto-car-to-bicycle automatic emergency braking performance. .
It also compliments the H6’s junction assist feature, which can prevent collisions with other vehicles in a turn-over test situation.
Standard safety equipment across the GWM Haval H6 range includes:
- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assistance

Rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and front parking sensors are standard on the H6 Hybrid and higher on the petrol-powered H6.
While GWM Haval Australia hasn’t detailed standard safety equipment specific to the upcoming H6 GT ‘coupe SUV’, it was recently revealed that AEB with pedestrian and cyclist assist, control Adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist will be standard equipment.
The 2022 GWM Haval H6 Hybrid was recently sold in Australia in a fully loaded, front-wheel drive version, priced from $45,990.

H6 GT
