A playful Springer Spaniel named Pogo scared off his furry parents when he returned from an evening out. Hello Pogo Gemma McAdam and her girlfriend at the door like every other day, but this time he had a mysterious red substance on his chest and feet.
The pair immediately panicked, thinking he had somehow injured himself while they were away.
Gemma begins scouring the house for sharp objects lying around, while her girlfriend checks Pogo for any obvious injuries. After the two have nothing, they realize that Pogo is not injured at all. Pogo got into something that soiled his fur, but what was it?
“We both panicked. We thought he injured himself with something, so I ran around the kitchen trying to find anything sharp, while my girlfriend was trying to stop him to watch. What is his wound? None of us even realized how happy he was to see us and wag his tail. He’s injured himself before and he’s not very good at hiding his pain, so we should definitely realize something happened. ” – Gemma McAdam
When they learn that Pogo is unharmed, they begin their hunt for the mysterious red substance that dyes their furry friend. After searching the house, they found the culprit in his crate. Pogo stole their red hair dye!
They confirmed to the vet that the red hair dye isn’t toxic to Pogo, so it looks like he made it through this adventure unharmed. That is until he hears the word “bath”.
“We both started laughing. Pogo was so happy that he kept running in circles, and looked guiltless… until the bathroom came out! ” – Gemma McAdam
Pogo’s parents did their best to brush his hair, but it was clear that the bright red hair dye didn’t give up without a fight. After turning to a few groups of Spaniels for advice on what to do next, it seemed time for a trip to the beach.
“I reached out to some spaniel groups that I belong to, and some suggested that seawater could be helpful, so Pogo had a lot of beach visits that week. I think he thought he was being rewarded, instead of being punished! ” – Gemma McAdam
