Tonight, Spence Jr will try to unify the WBC and IBF titles against WBA champion Yordenis Ugas. The two will officially swap fists in front of Spence Jr.’s hometown crowd. at AT&t Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Despite facing someone who is a boxer at 147 pounds, including Danny Garcia, Kell Brook and Lamont Peterson – Spence Jr has stepped into the ring as the favorites. With the confrontation with Ugas approaching, Spence Jr once again finds himself in the preferred position according to the betting experts.
Finally, Spence Jr., who was last seen playing against Danny Garcia in December 2020, doesn’t treat the Cuban-born Ugas as a walk in the park. Having won 12 of his 13 fights, including a brief win over Manny Pacquiao while being slightly physically damaged, Spence Jr believes Ugas’ recent winning streak has indeed extended to 13. consecutive.
During the first quarter of 2019, Ugas went back and forth with former two-time welterweight champion, Shawn Porter. Although Ugas suffered a decisive defeat, Spence Jr. that failure was nothing more than a bad night of judgment.
“He’s a tough opponent,” Ugas’ Spence Jr said during their press conference. “He was a guy who came to fight. I think he won the fight with Shawn Porter. The fight with Manny Pacquiao, he won that fight, I think he ripped his biceps or whatever injury he had. ”
Yet even with plenty of praise, Spence Jr is rushing towards his incoming opponent, who is stepping back on his own to cut Ugas’ world title reign short. When Spence Jr pulled back the curtain and combined his men’s overall skills, he left a clear impression. With that said, even at 31 years old and with a decade of experience as a professional, Spence Jr believes his time to fame isn’t over yet.
“He’s a great fighter, a great opponent but at the end of the day I just feel like it’s my time.”
