Don’t expect Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s biggest star, to test positive for banned substances after eating tainted beef. While preparing for a May light heavyweight title fight with the formidable Dmitry Bivol, Canelo decided to go vegan (following a diet free of meat and animal by-products). from fighting games in 2018 after testing positive for a banned substance. Canelo argues that he ate meat that, without his knowledge at the time, had been poisoned. Although no one other than Canelo and his team can know for sure what caused the fighter to test positive, the whole incident clearly affected Canelo himself, leaving the man basically Now avoid eating meat altogether.

Based on Mirror, Canelo “was advised to go vegan by PETA Latino after a failed drug test, but it took the No. 1 spot four years to switch to a meat-free diet.” It may seem a bit odd to some that Canelo decided to give up meat at a time when he was preparing to gain weight to face Bivol. One thing that can be said about Team Canelo, however, is that it is never unprepared. In other words, the 31-year-old simply didn’t slip between the ropes without being in the best possible condition. Furthermore, 57-1-2 Canelo is happy to have changed his eating habits.

“I feel so good,” he recently told ESPN Deportes. “My body is adapting very well. My stomach feels very good.” It’s not that Canelo is a fan of vegan food. “It’s not something I take all at once and give up everything I’m eating,” he said. “Obviously all week I try to be vegan and if one day I get the chance to eat meat or chicken I have no problem but I try to be vegan all week.”

Discipline has never been an issue for the Mexican superstar… a good thing, as he can stand up to the undefeated Bivol. Not only has the Kyrgyz boxer never tasted defeat, the player who defended the WBA 18-0 belt is also said to have wanted to compete with Canelo for a long time. Come on May 7, the man will have his chance, although Canelo will certainly be ready for him (the third high-profile battle with arch-rival Gennady Golovkin will mostly take place if Canelo win against Bivol).

Meanwhile, the biggest name in boxing has nothing but praise for the (mostly) vegan lifestyle he is embracing. “I really recommend it,” he said.
