Emerald Downs announced 21 stakes worth $1,245,000 in wallets for the 2022 live racing season that begins Sunday, May 15.
The track’s signature track, the Longacres Mile (G3), was boosted to $150,000 and anchored August 14 with four stake titles that also featured $75,000 Emerald Distaff, $75,000 Muckleshoot Derby and Washington Oaks $75,000. Wallets for Mile are $50,000 larger than they were last year while Distaff, Derby and Oaks are all up $25,000 from 2021.
Older Horse Division begins with 6 Budweiser Shares worth $50,000 on Sunday, June 26, followed by 6 Governors Shares worth $1 1/2 50,000 on Sunday, June 24 July and the 87th run of the Longacres Mile.
The stake schedule includes six double stake bills, plus two quadruple titles and a three-day title ending Sunday, September 18 featuring a $70,000 Gottstein Futurity, row race Head for 2 year olds.
$50,000 Seattle Stakes for 3-year-olds and $50,000 Auburn Stakes for 3-year-old chicks and 3-year-old pups will start staking action on Sunday, June 19.
Seven servings of stock are offered to 2-year-olds — three servings each for colts and geldings and fillers — culminating with Gottstein Futurity of one mile sixteen.
The Washington Cup has four shares— $50,000 Colts & Geldings for Juveniles in the Washington Cup and $50,000 for Juveniles in the Washington Cup on Sunday, August 28; $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic and $50,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mares on Sunday, September 18. Both 2-year-old races are restricted to Washington crosses while larger horse events are open to both Washington and British Columbia crossbreeds.
The opening date of the 2022 season is Sunday, May 15. The 52-day meeting ends on Sunday, September 18.
