The last surviving dog rescued from Michael Vick’s air combat ring in 2007 is dead

At less than a year old, pit bull Frodo faces a bleak future.

He’s one of nearly 70 dogs crammed into “Bad Newz Kennels,” an illegal dogfight in Virginia run by NFL superstar Michael Vick.

There, the dogs were forced to attack, repeatedly wounding each other until a federal investigation was able to not only stop the ring but also lead to convictions for Vick and his accomplices.

Now, nearly 15 years after the infamous 2007 bust, Frodo has passed away surrounded by his adoptive family.

It was the last surviving dog rescued from the illegal campaign and, along with many others released that day, became a symbol of the horrors of fighting and animal abuse.

Bad rap, a charity that helped rehabilitate and foster Vick dogs after the landmark case, made a eulogy for Frodo on their Facebook page, write:

“On Saturday, we had the great honor and privilege of attending sweet, shy Frodo’s transition as his family helped him through to be with the rest of the group.
He was the last of 48 brave survivors of that game-changing case. Arrested and rescued in 2007, we estimate that he will be 15 years old – and THIS is the big part – the last 14 years of his life have been spent being pampered like a prince with the Ramirez family and their friends. dog. Sweet Frodo – How We Loved Him. He is one of the bravest survivors we have ever met.”

Vick, who served 19 months in federal prison for his crimes, recalled his conduct as “a stain that I will never be able to erase” in an interview with washington articles in November 2021.

Since then, he has continued his career as a sports broadcaster and campaigning for animal rights.

Although his passing is painful for the family that patiently restored him through nightmares, behavioral problems, trauma, etc., Frodo’s life is well worth celebrating, no just as a reminder of the horror he overcame, but also the love and community he found for the 14-year-old. the years of his life were filled with happiness and familiarity.
