Switzerland is considering imposing a three-year prison sentence for anyone who turns on a thermostat, if power allocation applies.

  • The country can also issue fines of up to 3,000 Swiss Francs (£2,667).
  • In gas-heated buildings, water cannot be heated to more than 60C (140F).
  • Radiant heaters will be banned and saunas and swimming pools will be cold
  • It is likely that the proposed measures will face challenges and disputes

Switzerland is considering jailing anyone who heats their room above 19C for up to three years if the country is forced to supply gas due to Ukraine war.

The country could also fine those who violate the proposed new regulations.

Talking to BlickMarkus Sporndli, a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Finance, explained that daily fines can start from 30 Swiss Francs (£26).

Switzerland is one of the top-ranking countries on the World Economic Forum’s Energy Transition List. My guess is that the WEF was negligent in explaining the plan to switch to cheaper renewable energy including jail time if you actually try to use any kind of “cheap” energy.
