Bytten Studios and Raw Fury have announced that Pokémon-Inspiring monster matching RPG Cassette Beast coming to consoles, including Switch, is on May 25. You only have a month to wait until you can have some fun with some adorable, unusual pixel art creatures.
The game is out today on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, and reviews have been pretty rave for this new genre of monster taming. our friends at Rock-paper-scissors pistol call it “an intelligent, evolved branch” (but read on their rating right now if you want to know Why), and we can’t wait to dive next month.
Taking a slightly more mature approach to the “Pokémon-like” genre, Cassette Beasts lets you collect monsters and merge with them using cassettes. Developer Bytten Studios is based in Brighton, UK and was founded by Hay Baylis and Tom Coxon. Both have previously worked with Chucklefish, including on Star Valleyand has over two decades of experience in the indie pixel art scene, and that shows in Cassette Beasts’ stunning visual style and eclectic monster design.

– Monsters fused together: Merge with your companion’s monsters to transform into a unique, fully animated fusion that combines the powers of both forms! There are thousands of creature fusion combos to test and explore.
– Explore a rich open world: Some of the monster’s abilities can be used in human form which you will need to move, solve puzzles, etc. Surf, fly, swim, climb, dash or turn magnetism in a colorful land Liven up with beautifully crafted monsters, 80s vibes, and a synth soundtrack!
– Dive into a fascinating story: Cassette Beast Have an otherworldly adventure with spooky twists and turns. Who are the archangels? And how did you end up on the New Wirral?
– Master a deep combat system: Use elemental chemistry to apply spells or debuffs that benefit your attacks, or even change your opponent’s elemental types.
– Traveling with multiple companions: Never fight alone! Forge bonds with your partners and help them accomplish their personal goals to be a better team. The strength of your relationship determines how well you can merge!
– Play cooperatively with friends: Team up via local co-op multiplayer and Steam Remote Play Together for up to two players. Explore the open world, transform and fight together as a duo!
