Atomos Firmware Update Adds 5.9K ProRes RAW to Panasonic BS1H


In August, Atomos added the ability to record 8K ProRes RAW from Canon EOS R5 with their new one Ninja V + . screen/recorder. Now, with AtomOS 10.71 version, the Australian company has allowed ProRes RAW recording for Panasonic’s Lumix BS1H and legacy Sony FS series cinema cameras.

For Panasonic BS1H camera system, firmware update brings new and improved shooting modes when paired with both Ninja DRAW and Ninja V+: 5.9K (5888 x 3312) at up to 30p, 4.1K (4128 x 2176) at up to 60p, and 3.5K Anamorphic (3536 x 2656) at up to 60p. There are also new slider adjustments for the White Balance and ISO controls in Apple’s Final Cut Pro X.

For Sony’s FS5/FS5 II and FS700/FS700R, AtomOS 10.71 adds new shooting modes when paired with the Ninja V+ with the included SDI Module: 4K (4096 x 2160) at up to 120p and 2K (2048 x 1080) at up to 240p . (Note that the FS5 and FX700 require Sony’s paid RAW upgrade.) For the Sony FS7/FS7 II (with XDCA-FS7 expansion unit) with Ninja V+, the firmware adds 4K at max. 60p and 2K at up to 240p.

AtomOS 10.71 release also allows users to use the company’s new AtomX Cast hardware with the new Ninja V+ monitor/recorder, creating a powerful live streaming platform.

RAW and other updates on NINJA V & NINJA V +

Melbourne, Australia – November 23 – Today marks the start of the next phase in the Atomos mission to bring Apple ProRes RAW video capture to even more filmmakers. The release of the AtomOS 10.71 update for NINJA V and NINJA V+ screen recorders, introduces ProRes RAW format recording options for the legacy Sony FS series, Canon EOS R5, and Panasonic LUMIX BS1H. Additionally, the AtomOS update includes brand new features for AtomX CAST and compatibility with NINJA V+ to create a new level of performance and flexibility for live productions.

More RAW on NINJA V & NINJA V +

There was a lot of anticipation and interest in the fact that Atomos was able to pair the compact form of a 5-inch HDR screen recorder with the Sony FS series cameras. The powerful NINJA V+ Pro Kit (or NINJA V+ with AtomX SDI Kit and SDI RAW enabled) now supports ProRes RAW recording from FS5*, FS5MKII, FS700* and FS700r with continuous output directly from the sensor up to 2K 240 fps, 4K 60fps and 4K 120fps for a burst of 4 seconds. RAW output at 4K 60fps and 2K up to 240fps can also be added to the Sony FS7 or FS7MKII with the addition of the XDCA-FS7 module.

The combination of the Canon EOS R5 with the Atomos NINJA V delivers up to 5K RAW recording at an unprecedented price. The EOS R5 leverages the legacy of Canon’s full-frame cameras to deliver next-generation advancements in image quality, performance and reliability. The 45 Megapixel full-frame sensor can deliver 5K images allowing for high resolution stabilization and adjustment. The ability to work with 8K RAW on the NINJA V+ provides a big frame from the rearrangement of 4K crops and increased image fidelity.

Adding NINJA V or NINJA V+ to the Panasonic LUMIX BS1H rig enables 5.9K 30fps, 4.1K 60fps, and 3.5K 50fps anamorphic recording. The LUMIX BS1H combines the stunning cinema-quality video performance of the full-frame LUMIX S1H, including dramatic bokeh, low-light performance, 14-stop V-Log dynamic range, and networking. . By merging the LUMIX BS1H with the NINJA V/V+, filmmakers can be sure that the image they see is the one they capture.

Go Live with AtomX CAST

Atomos is also releasing an update to AtomX CAST. New features include compatibility with NINJA V+, image overlay, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) recording, and black/white conversion. The ability to burn both clean program feeds or to record with TX, PiP graphics, and direct-to-SSDs make the AtomX CAST the perfect device for quick turnaround live productions. When a fully equipped studio is impractical, a palm-sized video converter, recording and transmission device becomes an ideal choice.
