Most of you have probably heard of hidden files on your computer, but did you know about “super hidden” files? These special hidden files are worth looking into, as they have the potential to cause serious problems for your machine.
Hidden files and protected system files are two common ways to hide data from view on Windows machines. However, there is another way that information can be hidden from view, which is even more hidden and requires some extra steps to find. This week, technologist Joseph Thio came back again to explain to us what “super hidden” files are, why they can be a problem, and how to find them. Since computers and memory are often such an integral part of a photographer’s life, a better understanding of the field can only be a good thing.
The video begins by explaining that these “super hidden” files are actually called alternative data stream and how Windows Explorer can’t see them. Thio then goes on to talk about how viruses can maliciously use these data streams to store large files, which can lead to clogging up your hard drive without you even knowing it. know well.
