The recently retired Amir Khan gave his thoughts on the rumored clash between American duo Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia, as well as the future fight between Davis and Vasily Lomachenko.
On an Instagram live stream via FightHype.comKhan said that ‘The Tank’ not only beat the undefeated Ryan Garcia, but also beat the highly rated Lomachenko if they went head-to-head.
“The tank is a beast, whoever they put in front of him, he doesn’t defeat them. He destroys them. If Ryan Garcia and the Tank were to fight, I’d go for the Tank.”
“If Lomachenko plays against Tanks, I will fight Tanks again, although it is a harder match for him because it is very technical.”
However, the former unified lightweight champion thinks Garcia has the “fastest puncher” and says that if he perfects his game plan, he’ll likely succeed against ‘The Tank’ ‘.
“I like Ryan Garcia, he needs to keep it long and box him, hit and move and not let the Tanks deal with it. When the Tank is steady, that’s when he gets hit by them with great power, you don’t want to let him do that. You want to keep him moving.”
Roy Jones Jr recently likened the fight to the modern day equivalent of Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns, and there was talk among fans that it was one of the fights with the greatest potential in boxing. Khan believes that, while it’s a big fight, it’s unlikely to break any pay-per-view records.
“It doesn’t look like a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. So I can’t see it breaking big records, but I think it’ll do four or five hundred thousand purchases.”
Garcia remains optimistic that the fight could be made this year, however we have yet to hear any official announcement and negotiations appear to have quieted down in recent weeks.
