Both Demetrius Andrade and David Benavidez appear to be taking a collision course.
For the past five years, Andrade has proudly held and defended her WBO middleweight title. However, the 34-year-old tennis player from Providence, Rhode Island recently decided to give up her world title and instead pursue another piece of gold jewelry worth £168. The current players of the two divisions will face Zach Parker for the WBO interim super-middleweight title.
With Andrade begging and begging Canelo Alvarez, Jermall Charlo, Jermell Charlo, Gennadiy Golovkin, and every other big-name star in or around his weight class to face him, Benavidez seemed ready to accept. he followed his suggestion.
The former two-time super-middleweight belt holder has publicly called for a fight with Andrade, both of whom of course make it through their upcoming bouts.
As Andrade prepared to take on the role of Parker, Benavidez began preparing his own. The 25-year-old will face David Lemieux for the interim WBC belt at an unspecified location and date. Considering Benavidez’s knockout tendencies, he looks set to go into the match against Lemieux as a sizable favorite.
Although Benavidez was always violent in the ring, towards the end he took his aggression to the next level. In five consecutive competitions, the skilled knockout fighter forced his opponents to wave the white flag.
In Andrade’s case, the multi-division titration table has a proven and tested iron chin. Yet despite his persistence, Benavidez envisions their possible future showdown that will end with Andrade lying on his back.
“I knew I could stop Andrade,” Benavidez told FightHype.com. “But it will be a good fight for boxing.”
