Alittleloveandluck became the first black category winner for her late Arrogate sire when she received $100,000 in Ginger Brew Stakes on Jan. Gulfstream Park.
The 3-year-old boy owned and coached by Michael Dini was from a limited crop by the Unbridled’s Song champion son, who died suddenly in 2020 at the age of 7 after just three seasons at the school. She’s Arrogate’s first sophomore starter, who didn’t make her debut until April of his 3-year-old and didn’t break her maiden until June before going great.

Bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbazon from Points given mare Point of Grace , Alittleloveandluck was privately acquired by Dini after failing to meet her reserves when the hammer fell for $135,000 at the 2020 Keeneland Sale in September. Dini felt Alittleloveandluck was destined for grass-court racing, but became suspicious when the little girl failed to hit the board in one of her first two starts, both on grass. However, when the Gulfstream racing office called to ask if he would try her again on the grass at Ginger Brew, the coach gave him one more shot.
“I said, ‘Well, I might as well try her again on grass with a short pitch,'” Dini recalls.
With Paco Lopez back at the iron, Alittleloveandluck secured an inside spot from turret 3 around Ginger Brew’s first turn, which was run about a mile on solid turf. She is as well settled as Li Li Bear directions, then switches to five-way around the home leg, and reacts under right-handed pressure to a clear draw in the 1:36.68 chronograph. Juddmonte’s purebred Arrogate won the 3-year-old men’s championship title in 2016 after scoring 5 straight wins, culminating in victories in the Travers Stakes (G1) – of which he won 13 1 /2 length while breaking 36 year old record in 1 1/4 mile — and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), in which he beat Horse of the Year 2016 California Chrome .
