Chery Omoda 7 launched – sports SUV with PHEV 1.5 TGDi technology, gaming style interior, sliding touch screen
The Chery Omoda 7 was just launched in the automaker’s hometown of Wuhu, China. Is an older brother of a celebrity Omoda 5, it is described as a sporty SUV coupe with diverse appeal. It combines three main design pillars: dynamic, avant-garde and futuristic.
It’s certainly a striking looking SUV. The shark nose with borderless parametric grille appears to be inspired by the Lexus RX, as do the general sharp corners seen all around. Look closely at the front corners and you’ll see a repeating hexagonal pattern that can light up, as part of a “digital pixel design detail.”
The Omoda 7 is equipped with large 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, while the wheel arch liners have a special pattern on them. What’s surprising is that the door handles are traditional pull-out door handles instead of the pop-out style favored by most new cars coming out of China recently.
At the rear, the coupe-like roofline gives it a bit of a Range Rover Velar feel, although the window line with its prominent crease on the rear fenders resembles that of the Omoda 5, creating a Neat appearance for the family. The taillights feature a design known as electric energy – a series of connecting arrows that form a lightning bolt.
The dimensions of Omoda 7 are 4,621 mm long, 1,872 mm wide and 1,673 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. It is significantly larger than the Omoda 5 (4,400 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, 1,588 mm high, 2,630 mm wheelbase) in every aspect and much closer to the Honda CR-V (4,694 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, 1,681 mm high). , wheelbase 2,700 mm).
The inside is where it gets really interesting as it has gaming style elements. For example, the steering wheel is said to be inspired by the PlayStation 5 controller – easy to control, “maximizing a playful experience” – while the front seats are modeled after gaming chairs (ironically originally designed for made to imitate car seats). ). Fancy stitching, nubuck leather and quilting add to the sporty look and feel.
Meanwhile, the 15.6-inch central touchscreen can actually slide to be placed directly in front of the passenger, providing a more comfortable viewing angle while on the move. Other interesting features include integrated air freshener boxes that infuse selected fragrances into the air conditioning system (similar to the Air Balance option on high-end Mercedes-Benz models) and a Sony audio 12 + 2 speakers. A pair of small surround speakers were later added inside the driver’s headrest. There’s even an engine noise cancellation system for a quieter cabin!
Additionally, the chassis (a stretched, reworked version of the Omoda 5 platform) has been upgraded with twin hydraulic suspension and an advanced wire brake system. As for ADAS, there are no less than 18 features including all the usual driver assistance systems, along with a new voice-activated lane change assist function.
Under the hood is a 4-cylinder gasoline engine, 1.5TGDi capacity, combined with a plug-in hybrid system. The motor itself is said to have the highest thermal efficiency in its class at 44.5%, while the battery pack can provide a pure EV driving range of up to 95km. In hybrid mode, it is said to have fuel consumption of 4.89 liters/100 km, allowing for a combined range of 1,250 km, at least on paper.
