27 liter V12 engine snap brake – John Dodd, The Beast
Do you ever feel like your car is missing? Lack of power? Missing size? Missing in engine movement? Lack of rare? Well, this is your chance to change all that. Auction site Cars & Classics is ready to deliver a – only – The Beast. The beige ode to beige background crafted by automotive engineer John Dodd can be yours.
In case you lost it:
Aside from looks, the biggest highlight of The Beast is undoubtedly its engine. The car may have started life as a Rolls royce car, but whatever motive it had, has long since disappeared. In its place is a 27 liters Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. Yes, that Merlin engine. One from the Spitfire fighter during World War II. Yes, I will be honest. That’s not the exact engine, as the engine on the plane is turbocharged.
But don’t worry, it still won’t slip. The animals The 27-liter (1,648 cubic inches!) is said to produce an estimated 760 hp, but keep in mind that this has never been (and probably never should be) on a dyno. In 1973, however, it reached a proven top speed of 183 mph. Not too bad. Dodd is an automatic transmission expert, so he was able to build a GM Turbo 400 three-speed automatic that was connected to a Currie rear axle to handle the full power.
G/O Media can receive commission
According to the listing, Dodd (who passed away in December), is still listed as the owner and can be seen regularly tinkering with and driving The Beast around the UK.
The Beast’s all-fiberglass exterior is as wild as the engineering that made it. Starting at the front, you get eight headlights (family truck style) with a large grille and the initials “JD” in the middle.
Apparently, The Beast used to wear a casual outfit. Rolls royce car grille, but the British luxury carmaker isn’t too fond of that. In fact, Rolls-Royce took Dodd to court, and a few years later it was replaced with the grille you see today.
To say that The Beast has a wild look would be an understatement. In my eyes, it seems that if a BMW Z3 Coupe Clown Shoes get gas station enhancement medicine. It’s perfect, if you ask me.
This is really Monday iteration of The Beast. The first was destroyed in a fire while Dodd was on his way back from Sweden, but this did not stop Dodd. Instead of giving up, he created The Beast you see here, and it’s even longer than the first one. Bless this man.
Inside the beige car is a beige interior with – surprisingly – only two seats. That means its rear cargo space is really big. Damn, this is an actual car! The driver’s space is definitely a custom affair with a few Rolls-Royce carry-on items to go with it.
One would have to imagine that it would be quite safe in a crash despite not having any airbags. I mean, hell. The front of the car is in a different time zone. You may run past some of the British proletariat before you realize it.
So if you are one of those people who value size then this is the perfect vehicle for you. Please, one of you, buy The Beast and let me drive it.
