Maserati MC20 GT2 brings Trident back to GT racing in 2023

Looks like we’re already ahead Maserati, but now we’re on the same page as the Italian automaker. We wrote about Maserati24 project Earlier this week, a limited edition race car wasn’t built to race a specific series, but instead to pursue Maserati’s own performance goals. We wonder if Project24 is a magnetic axis rumor GT3 show planned for MC20 many years ago. It turns out that Project24 is a fork of the GT2 program for MC20, the Italians in Modena announced that they have developed an MC20 GT2 to compete in Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship next year.

The basic specifications listed so far of the MC20 GT2 are the same as the Project24. The twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine shifts to a six-speed sequential automatic with paddle shifters, sending power to the rear wheels via a mechanical limited-slip differential. Brembo CCMR racing brake double wishbone suspension with front and rear anti-roll bars and adjustable dampers, right behind the custom 18-spoke central locking wheel, forged on racing models can be changed easily thanks to gas jacks on the vehicle. A single seat in the cabin equipped with an adjustable, multi-function accessory carbon fiber steering wheel, adjustable pedal box and climate control. Safety features include a FIA fuel tank, rain cover, coil cage, six point harness and fire extinguisher.

The differences we know include output, limited weight and aero package. Series organizer SRO says the GT2 “is designed to bring gentleman racers back to the stage … while being fast and breathtaking enough to guarantee the values of the championship promoted by SRO, if the current GT3 category becomes too expensive for too many of our teams and drivers.” The GT2 stipulates a limited output of around 630 hp, just 9 hp more than the standard MC20 – and low. 110 horsepower more than Project24. The Series Performance Balance rules will ultimately determine the race’s weight and output. The regulations also put limits around aviation equipment that Maserati Stile does not need to pay attention to on Project24. Aerodynamics is particularly important here as the GT2 is more powerful than the GT3 but is designed to be less aerodynamically dependent than the GT3, making the GT2 version easy for amateurs to drive at the limit.

This is Maserati’s first return to GT racing on the GT4 class since the MC12 GT1 has won nearly 100 wins between 2004 and 2010. The racing division will
Car sales for individuals and racing teams. For now, those Trident drivers will face six other manufacturers in the series in the Brabham BT63 GT2,
Audi r8 LMS,
Porsche 911 GT2 RS,
KTM X-Bow, and
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo.
