Looks like there will be a trip to New Orleans with runner-up Remsen Stakes (G2) Zandon of the future.
Coach Chad Brown says 3-year-old Jeff Drown’s owner Start up colt being pointed to the Easter Star Stock on February 19 presented by Lamarque Ford (G2) at Fair Grounds & Slots on February 5 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.
“Owners don’t like short power lines in Gulfstream Park, which loves speed,” says Brown. “He’s got some good points and I can’t argue with him. Transportation (to New Orleans) is the only angle that I don’t love. Zandon is doing pretty well and is ready to run right now, so that’s it. waiting until the 19th makes me feel a bit more upset, but again the Resurrection Star has more qualifying points than Holy Bull.”
Holy Bull, competing at 1/16 mile, had $250,000 and provided only 17 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) on a 10-4-2-1 scale. for the top four finishers .
Meanwhile, the Risen Star 1 1/8 mile is worth $400,000 and is the first of 16 Kentucky Derby Championship Series, allocating 85 points on a 50-20-10-5 basis.
Zandon, who hasn’t run since finishing second on December 4 in the 1 1/8 mile Remsen race in his second start, had four qualifying points for his nose loss Mo Donegal . He is working at the Payson Park Training Center in Florida preparing for his 3-year-old debut.
Raised in Kentucky by Brereton Jones, Zandon entered Remsen with a clear win in his six-feathered maiden debut on October 9 at Belmont Park.
