What started as a hilarious road trip turned into a life-changing rescue mission when a woman stumbled across a box of puppies in the desert.
Paige Rico is enjoying her first solo trip, driving from California through Utah. Along the way, she stops to enjoy the many sights and hikes. Everything was going smoothly, until she stopped to explore a desert in Utah.
While walking around a 110-degree summer day, she noticed a box. After approaching the box, Paige realizes that there are three puppies inside! They were all alive and moving, but she knew they wouldn’t last long if she didn’t get them out of the heat.
Paige immediately drove them to the nearest veterinary hospital. A veterinarian was able to examine them immediately and determine they were severely dehydrated and hungry, but otherwise in good health. Two of the healthy puppies weighed 4 pounds and the third puppy, the runt, weighed just 2 pounds.
After the assessment, the vet told Paige she was free to take the pups home or could take them to a shelter. Not wanting to let the puppies go through the stress of being in a shelter, Paige chose to bring all three dogs home and find their own homes.
It took two days to drive home with all three puppies in tow. Talk to Dodo, Paige explained that as soon as she got home, life turned chaotic. Taking care of three puppies is no easy feat!
They are very active and playful and must be potty trained and socialized. It was a lot of work, but Paige got through it and even found two of the puppies with a loving home together!
The third puppy, Breck, is from the litter. He was more timid and shy than the other two and he formed a deep bond with Paige, who struggled with the idea of letting him go. So, she decided to adopt little Breck and give him a loving home – and now they go on amazing adventures together!
It wasn’t long before Paige was ready to hit the road and she took Breck with her. They drove to the same area where Paige found the puppies and it brought back a lot of memories.
Speaking to The Dodo, Paige said, “Even though I saved the puppies, I really feel like they saved me, emotionally, because they immediately gave me a lot of purpose.”
She shares social media updates about her new life with Breck and it looks like the two are living their best lives.
