There are hundreds (reported) haunted hotels around the world, from the glitzy high-rises of Hollywood to regal Indian palaces – and even a few key properties.

We’ve picked eight of our favorites from around the world – a mix of urban towers, historic mansions and more – that are said to have some supernatural guests. This list seems to reflect the great taste of ghosts in overnight accommodations.

Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel is the sinister inn that inspired the Stephen King movie “The Shining”.

Rooms 217 and 413 are considered the most haunted, although the entire 4th floor is said to be the most haunted level of the hotel. Savannah, Georgia, is another city known for its gothic appeal and historical haunts. The Marshall House is one of the oldest and most famous architectural works in the city. The hotel is said to be inhabited by a number of ghosts, including soldiers who lost limbs, children playing marbles in the hallways, and the spirit of Joel Chandler Harris, a former author who stayed at the hotel. The Shelbourne
