Who Funds Extinction Rebellion? American & British Millionaires – ‘Some of America’s Most Famous Families, Including the Kennedys & the Gettys’

Extinction Rebellion does not have a local NGO. Instead, it gets massive financial backing from American and British millionaires.

The New York Times in 2019 story From report:

“Climate change protesters from Extinction Rebellion blocked traffic in Washington on Monday and again on Friday. You may find yourself wondering, ‘Who helps pay for this activity?’ The answer, in part, is the family of some of America’s most famous families, including the Kennedys and the Gettys. ”

That could be a reference to Rory Kennedy (daughter of former US Senator Robert F. Kennedy) and Aileen Getty (grandson of former US oil businessman Jean Paul Getty), who started the Emergency Fund Climate, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Extinction Rebellion. Getty’s foundation even welcome its support for Extinction Rebellion.

Follow on Buzzfeed, Extinction Rebellion was started by two British nationals, and the group’s records show these threats of violence come from a calculated strategy:

“From the outside, Extinction Rebellion looks like a free-flying movement with elaborate costumes and weird stunts. There is indeed a deeply thought-out method beneath its madness, even if some of its stunts have caused internal tension and its message is deadly serious. And as much as it surprised the political world, it didn’t just erupt spontaneously. “

And in the UK, Extinction Rebellion has the backing of hedge fund manager Sir Chris Hohn. Earlier this year, The Guardian report that Hohn “paid himself just £1m/day last year,” and is using his fortune to support the group:

“Instead, he pumped money into Extinction Rebellion (XR), the ‘break respect’ campaign that has staged serious protests around the world. When Hohn was revealed to be the sole major donor of XR, he said: ‘Humanity is destroying the world drastically with climate change and we all need to be wary of this fact. .’ “

Hohn is also the founder Children’s Investment Fund, which spend a lot on climate action.

This money helped Extinction Rebellion usher in massive, disruptive protests around the world including recent protests. COP26 in Glasgow, and in London, New York City, Paris, and Tokyo.

Likewise, Suzuki also benefited from large US dollars. Since 2000, the David Suzuki Foundation has received substantial financial support from Rockefeller Brothers Foundation – one of the important groups support activists and litigation campaigns against the energy industry. More recently, the fund has received a total of nearly $1 million from Packard Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, and Bullitt Foundation.
