YouTube Premium members can now try out a new AI-powered feature called ‘Move Ahead’. Rolled out as part of a wider test, the feature aims to enhance user experience by allowing subscribers to skip to the most relevant part of a video with just a double tap.

Previously tested in March, YouTube is now making ‘Jump Forward’ more accessible to Premium subscribers via the youtube.com/new platform. Once activated, users can simply double-tap to skip ahead and encounter the pill-shaped button in the lower right corner. According to the report, this button, labeled ‘Move Forward’, offers to take users to the section that viewers most often skip9to5google.

How it works

Leveraging AI and data about viewer behavior, YouTube determines the optimal point to jump to, ensuring users can quickly navigate to the content they find most engaging. Upon tapping the button, users will be greeted with an overlay indicating they are ‘Skip to an often overlooked section’, a feature exclusive to YouTube Premium members.

Initially introduced as a small-scale test, the feature has now gained wider visibility on youtube.com/new testing. However, it is currently limited to the mobile client and is accessible through Settings > Try experimental new features. Additionally, it’s worth noting that this feature is exclusive to the YouTube Android app and is only available for English videos in the US.

While it doesn’t apply to every video, the feature appears to prioritize videos with a significant number of views. Furthermore, access to this experimental feature requires a YouTube Premium membership. The trial period will end on June 1, with the possibility of extension depending on user feedback and engagement.
